Vasily Mihajlovich Hmeljuk was born on July, 3rd, 1903 . in Beryozovka area Zhmerinskogo region of Vinnitsa area. Education has received by Vladislav Jarotski (the Krakow Academy of arts), in Karl University and in the Ukrainian studio of plastic arts in Prague, under S.Mako's patronage.

Since 1928 artist lived in Paris where became one of the central figures of an art life of the French capital. His first personal exhibition has passed in " Young Europe " gallery in Paris.

Owing to his talent, Khmeluk exposed the pictures in known Parisian galleries, halls of prestigious College Tessen. Despite of financial problems of post-war years, the French government on a regular basis bought works of the Ukrainian Parisian.

Protruding collectors have become interested in work of Khmeluk: A.Volljar, S.Shukin, etc., that has enabled to expose its works in known Parisian galleries. 1933-36 at Volman, Puae, as in England, Italy and Switzerland. In 1942 -a great exhibition in College Tissen halls of, and with 1943 it was constantly exposed in Djuran-Rjuelja gallery, organizedan exhibition in Paris, New-York and other cities.

Works of the artist are stored in museums of London, Paris, New York, Philadelphia, Munich, Toronto, Stockholm, Lviv, Lucerne, in. Oxford university gallery and at private collectors.

It was not only the artist, but also the poet. Khmeluk has published three collections of verses: "Gin" (1926), " 1926, 1928, 1923 " (1927) and " Autumn sun” (1928) All collections are published in Prague.

Vasily Hmeljuk took active participation in a life of the Ukrainian art colony in capital of France. V.Hmeljuk's circle: Oleksa Grischenko, brothers Virst, Michael Andrienko and many other things.

Vasily Khmeluk has died on November, 2nd, 1986 in Paris.
